"I wanted this to be pure Bloodline"- CM Punk might not have been WWE's original pick, feels analyst

WWE pulled off a seemingly unexpected swerve this past week by having CM Punk as the final member of Roman Reigns' Survivor Series team. However, Peter Rosenberg would have liked to see only The Bloodline members in the match and wondered if The Rock's absence had any role to play.

The battle lines have been drawn as Roman Reigns finally reconciled with The Usos and Sami Zayn to end the terror of Solo Sikoa's offshoot Bloodline.

While Sikoa recruited the intimidating Bronson Reed as the fifth member of his WarGames collective, Roman Reigns was left with more questions than answers regarding the final spot.

Paul Heyman returned to SmackDown recently, and he wasn't alone, as The Wiseman introduced CM Punk as Roman's unlikely Survivor Series partner.

While speaking on the Cheap Heat podcast, Peter Rosenberg admitted he initially wanted only superstars who have been involved with The Bloodline story to be a part of the Survivor Series match.

"My initial thought was I wanted this to be pure Bloodline. That was my hope. I wanted this to be absolutely everyone in this match is in The Bloodline." [From 14:20 - 14:34]

Rosenberg noted that WWE could have then brought in Paul Heyman and potentially The Rock to advance the story heading into Survivor Series.

The WWE analyst also questioned whether the company pivoted to CM Punk due to Dwayne Johnson's apparent inability to return to TV.

"It would have been great, and then if we wanted to, we could have had the Paul Heyman thing, and there is a Rock appearance. I wonder if this was the plan or if this was a pivot because The Rock could not be involved." [From 15:06 onwards]

Peter Rosenberg explains how a pure Bloodline Survivor Series WWE match was doable

The WarGames matches have traditionally been five vs. five showdowns, and WWE is following the same format this year.

However, Peter Rosenberg believed the promotion could have made an exception for The Bloodline saga and limited the teams from having more than four members.

Rosenberg would have enjoyed seeing just Roman Reigns, The Usos, and Zayn take on Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, and the Tongans.

"And I think that was very doable, I mean, you could have just had Roman, Sami, and The Usos. And when I say legitimately in The Bloodline, you have Roman, Sami, and The Usos, versus Solo, Jacob, and Tama Tonga, and Tanga Loa, could have just called it at that. Four on Four, good night, good luck, see you later." [From 14:35 - 15:05]

CM Punk being in the original Bloodline's corner has certainly added to the excitement for Survivor Series WarGames 2024, and the match itself could mark the beginning of new feuds.
