WWE Superstar LA Knight is at a career roadblock, and John Cena can help fix this predicament. Cena's Farewell Tour will commence next week as RAW premieres on Netflix.
TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth feels that John Cena should focus his final run on elevating one to three athletes only rather than the entire roster. Nemeth and Cena have worked together in WWE before. The 16-time World Champion has put him over massively at the TLC Premium Live Event in 2012.
The 44-year-old is aware of his former on-screen rival's selfless attitude towards the business. He noted that it would work wonders for a smaller number than going around and simply losing to too many wrestlers on the roster. Speaking on the Busted Open podcast, Nic Nemeth proposed an idea for a program between John Cena and LA Knight:
"I'm going to get to point to X in one year, and it's all with one guy," Nemeth began. "If there was some idea where it was like—it is John Cena versus LA Knight in one year! [But] where are we going tomorrow? I think you can still weave patterns in and out of there and always have some background. You really could, without the handshake [à la John Cena versus The Rock's year-long build between 2011 to 2012]. You just have LA Knight in the background," he opined. "You could build that while Cena is doing other things and helping people out." [From 21:39 onwards]
LA Knight lost the United States Championship to Shinsuke Nakamura at Survivor Series: WarGames and has since entered a program with The New Bloodline. It bears watching whether this is part of a long-term booking.
During John Cena's last run in the fall of 2023, he worked with LA Knight. At first, he donned the role of special guest referee for Knight's match against The Miz at Payback, then teamed up with The Megastar at Fastlane to take on Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso. WWE even scratched the surface of the potential for a feud between the two popular babyfaces.
The Megastar opened up about possibly facing John Cena this year during the Fanatics Fest NYC a few months back, although at the time, he was the US Champion:
"Former tag partners. You never know. He [John Cena] might want to come back and get this United States Championship one more time—a guy who has been a staple for this championship. I would field that challenge, for sure. With him being my tag partner, I might just know him a little bit. You talk about the greatest of all time and what some might call the future," Knight said.
In the aforementioned Busted Open podcast, Nic Nemeth also discussed in-depth the ramifications of a John Cena heel turn in 2025 against another popular babyface WWE Superstar.
