Buff Bagwell versus Booker T is widely considered one of the worst matches in pro wrestling history. The infamous outing is said to have forced Vince McMahon to cancel his plans to broadcast Nitro alongside RAW.

On a recent edition of What Were They Thinking? on Backstage Pass, JBL shared his opinion of Buff Bagwell versus Booker T. The former WWE Champion said most of the WWE roster at the time knew Booker but wasn't familiar with Bagwell.

"We all knew Booker pretty well. You know, Bagwell had been in WCW pretty much predominantly in his career. A lot of guys that weren't [in] WCW didn't know Marcus. We all knew Booker. Most of us had worked with him at one stage or another. A lot of us had. And, you know, I broke in with Booker. So, we love Booker and we're sitting there rooting for him. And that match was just so freaking bad." [From 09:22 onwards]

JBL said that while the match received a negative reception from the crowd and backstage, most WWE Superstars at the time, including him, didn't want Booker T to catch the heat. Bradshaw disclosed that talents knew that the two-time Hall of Famer wasn't at fault.

"We were just hoping that Booker wouldn't catch the brunt of this. Booker's a two-time Hall of Famer, he's one of the greatest, he's one of the best workers in the history of this business. Booker can do anything. He can do any match. He can do any promo, anything. We were just hoping that Booker wouldn't get the the brunt of the fallout because, you know, it just didn't work." Bagwell was released from his WWE contract shortly after the bout with Booker T. As for Booker, he is a color commentator for WWE NXT. The five-time WCW Champion also runs Reality of Wrestling (ROW) in Houston.

It remains to be see whether Booker will pop up on RAW's Netflix debut in Inglewood, California.
