Kevin Owens brutally assaulted Cody Rhodes after Saturday Night's Main Event. Since then, The American Nightmare has not been seen on TV.
Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens have been feuding since WWE Bad Blood when the latter attacked the former in the parking lot. This rivalry became more personal as KO continued to air his frustration with his former friend in the following weeks.
The two men finally locked horns at Saturday Night's Main Event with the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line. After a hard-fought battle, Cody Rhodes picked up the win. However, Owens was not satisfied with the outcome and attacked The American Nightmare after the show went off the air. Owens hit his former friend with a package piledriver. After the assault, Cody had to be taken to a local medical facility and hasn't been seen on TV.
However, it looks like he has been cleared to compete. The American Nightmare will be part of WWE's Holiday Tour and is in Jacksonville for tonight's house show. He will compete against Owens in a Steel Cage match for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
During Kevin Owens' Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night's Main Event, he came close to picking up the win, but the referee was knocked down and couldn't count the pinfall.
A second referee came out but was also knocked down. When the referee recovered, The American Nightmare hit the Cross Rhodes on Owens and won the match. As a result, KO attacked Cody and left with the winged-eagle WWE Championship.
Following the match, Kevin Owens called himself the true and rightful Undisputed WWE Champion on social media.
"I can’t believe it has already been a week since #SNME… An #absolutely #unforgettable night! I am #honored and #blessed to be your #true and #rightful @WWE #Champion. #Happy #Holidays #Everyone #ExclamationPoint," Owens wrote.
