There has been a major update regarding a potential WWE return of Aleister Black. The veteran spent the past few years performing as Malakai Black in All Elite Wrestling.

Fightful Select reported during this past Wednesday's edition of AEW Dynamite that Black's time in AEW may be coming to an end. According to a new report by PW Insider, the former champion will become a free agent in February or March. The report added that while Black is still technically under contract, it is believed that he has finished making appearances for the company.

Aleister Black was released by the promotion in 2021 and spent several years in All Elite Wrestling. The veteran was the leader of The House of Black faction and the group captured the Trios Championships once. Black never captured a singles title during his tenure in AEW and has not competed in a match since Full Gear 2024.

WWE is reportedly working on creative plans for Aleister Black

The company is reportedly expecting Aleister Black to return to the promotion once he officially becomes a free agent.

According to a new report by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it is believed that Black will be departing All Elite Wrestling, but there has not been confirmation yet. The report added that there have been talks in WWE about his potential return and discussions about the veteran within the creative team:

"There has been a lot of talk in the past two days about Malakai Black. The word backstage was that he was gone, although in trying to confirm it, nobody would say anything. It’s been reported elsewhere, and one person close to the situation said they were confirming it to us but when we asked officially there was neither a confirmation nor a denial. Nobody expects him back. There was also talk from WWE that he was expected there when his contract expires. That’s been the case for a while, but evidently there has been talk in WWE creative about him of late," - WON

The 39-year-old is a former NXT Champion but had a disappointing run on the main roster a few years ago. Only time will tell what the future holds for Black in the professional wrestling business.
