Thierry Henry thinks Mohamed Salah was wrong to go public about his contract situation at Liverpool. The Egyptian star said he was 'more in than out' regarding his future at Anfield beyond next summer.
Salah has received backlash for his comments, including from Jamie Carragher, who was on CBS Sports Golazo with Henry. The Arsenal legend gave an intriguing take on the situation:
"I always try to emphasize with people and see their point of view. So if I see what he's trying to do and how he's going about it, I'm not ok with how he went about it. I can understand what he's trying to do."
Henry left Arsenal in 2007 when he moved to Barcelona, leaving many Gunners fans heartbroken. However, they respected his decision as he made the move professionally.
The iconic Frenchman thinks Salah should keep such information behind closed doors:
"Do I agree with it? No I don't because I wouldn't have done it and I've been in that situation. When you talk about your contract you need to do it inside. Timing was wrong for me."
Salah, 32, has just over six months left on his contract at Anfield and has been with Liverpool since July 2017. He's been vital for the Merseysiders, including this season, posting 12 goals and 10 assists in 18 games across competitions.
Carragher was furious with Salah this week for airing his contractual situation to the public. The former Liverpool defender was disappointed with the timing of the comments with such an important game on the horizon.
The English pundit alluded to this when criticising Salah's fans for defending him. He wrote on X:
"Mo Salah only answered a question, is the new nonsense all his fan boys are spouting!!! Wait until you see how many questions Arne Slot gets asked about Salah’s comments, the talk should be about two of Europe’s giants coming up against each other not contracts!"
Salah is one of three Reds players whose contracts expire next summer. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are also heading into the final months of their contracts.
Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk have yet to comment about the situation and whether they are likelier to stay or go. Salah can speak to clubs from abroad in January and agree a move if no new deal is sorted.
