Lefty Gunplay recently talked about his friendship with Kendrick Lamar in an interview on Thursday, December 19. Gunplay appeared on the Above All YouTube channel and in the interview's Inside Lefty Gunplay's Phone section, the rapper was asked about the most famous contact on his phone. Lefty answered with Kendrick Lamar's name, saying:

"I'll call Kendrick right now. He'll answer me, yeah, for sure. He loves me. If I need to talk to Kendrick Lamar right now, he's gonna answer. Yeah, we're cool like that."

The rapper further continued:

"We're so famous that he gets a hold of me through his team and low-key I'm becoming that famous where it's like, you know, we got so much going on... but if I need him to know that Lefty said he needed to talk to, he'll call."

Lefty Gunplay and the Hood Politics rapper were acquainted with each other earlier this year while working on TV Off, a track from Kendrick Lamar's GNX which is currently placed at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Gunplay, who was featured in the track, has released 4 albums of his own in 2024. His debut album, Rookie of the Year was released in February and was followed by Famous Gangbanger, PreSeason, and Most Valuable Gangbanger.

Gunplay talked about a deluxe version of Kendrick Lamar's GNX being in the making

Nearly a week after Kendrick surprise-dropped his sixth studio album, Lefty Gunplay sat down in an interview with Bootleg Kev, reported HipHopDX on November 28.

When Kev asked Lefty about his contribution to the Cartoon & Cereal rapper's album, Gunplay said:

"He has some stuff. We did two, three songs. He has some stuff in the chamber. He told me that we’re going to work again, for sure... I know he’s got a deluxe version coming out. He’s very secretive."

Further in the conversation, Lefty also talked about having to sign an NDA before working with K-Dot on GNX, elaborating:

"We had to sign NDAs and they were like, ‘You’re going [in the studio] with Kendrick’ and it didn’t hit me ’til he walked in there and gave me a hug. He’s been locked in with me since April and he said that I’m the missing piece that the West Coast needed."

The newcomer rapper also shared that he almost blew his NDA because he couldn't wait to tell everybody about the fact that he worked with Lamar.

Gunplay's interview was dropped before GNX was revealed to have topped the Billboard 200 album chart, making it Kendrick Lamar's consecutive fifth number-one on the chart. In addition to that, all 12 songs on the album ranked in the top 30 of Billboard's Hot 100 chart as per December 7 rankings.

In light of the success of his latest album, Kendrick Lamar announced a North American tour to support it on December 3. The tour titled Grand National Tour will see Lamar headlining alongside SZA, whom the rapper has collaborated with on Gloria and Luther, two of the album's songs.

The Grand National Tour kickstarts in Minneapolis on April 19, and will conclude on June 10 in Detroit. Two shows from the tour will also be hosted in Toronto's Rogers Center on June 12 and 13.

Despite the speculations about a GNX deluxe album coming soon, Kendrick hasn't made any official announcement about it yet.
