Kid Rock recently criticized Michelle Obama after she said that she wouldn’t attend Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony on January 20, 2025. The news of Michelle’s absence from the ceremony came around four days ago in a statement shared to the Associated Press by her office.
While appearing on Jesse Watter Primetime on Thursday, January 16, the rapper addressed Michelle’s decision by saying:
“She seems a little angry.”
Kid Rock also recalled that despite not supporting former president Barack Obama, he had once performed at the latter’s 2009 Youth Inaugural Ball. He mentioned that he had not voted for Obama and continued:
“But they asked me to play the inauguration, and I played it, and I went, had a good time. I went out of respect for the presidency, so I would kindly remind Ms. Michelle about that.”
Notably, Barack and Michelle’s office statement did not mention any specific reason why Michelle decided to skip the ceremony, as per Page Six. However, an insider close to the duo said that it was a conscious decision and added:
“She’s never been fake and she’s never been phony. She’s always been very deliberate about where and how she shows up.”
Kid Rock has been a supporter of Donald Trump for a long time and while his words about Michelle started trending on different platforms, netizens took to the comments section of The Shade Room’s Instagram post to share their reactions, with most of them saying that Trump did not attend Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony.
Furthermore, Michelle has yet to respond to the statement made by Rock on Jesse Watter Primetime.
As mentioned, the Biker Boyz star has been supporting Donald Trump for many years. A report by the New York Post stated that Kid became Trump’s supporter when the latter emerged as the winner of the 2016 presidential election. Rock also had an opportunity to attend a dinner with Trump alongside some friends.
Kid Rock also recalled his meeting with Trump as he appeared for an interview on Tucker Carlson Tonight around two years ago. Rock claimed at the time that he and Trump have become “buddies” and continued:
“[We] spend a lot of time [together] at the golf course now. It’s really weird to get phone calls from him and stuff. It’s kind of mind-blowing.”
A report by the Associated Press on January 16, 2025, stated that Kid Rock will perform at Trump’s upcoming inauguration ceremony. The list of performers, revealed by the Trump Vance Inaugural Committee on January 15, features many popular names from the music industry such as Billy Ray Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, Gary LeVox, and more.
Rock has not released any new album for almost three years. His last major project was Bad Reputation, which came out in 2022. It was Rock’s 12th album and featured 18 songs in the soundtrack. The project later managed to grab a spot on the US Billboard 200 and other charts.
