The Penguin is all set to head into its finale when episode 8 premieres on November 10, 2024. While the show will come to an end, that doesn't mean that The Batman director Matt Reeves' cinematic universe will conclude as well. With The Batman - Part II already in development, fans are set to get other shows as well, which will be set in this iteration of Gotham.

Talking to actor Andy Serkis for Interview, The Batman director and The Penguin producer Matt Reeves teased that more shows are to come in the future. Showcasing his excitement for the reception of The Penguin, Reeves spoke about how these stories will all be based in Gotham and be their own thing, like the Colin Farrell-starrer.

“Now to see that the show is being embraced is really, really exciting. We have been talking about doing other shows. I wanted to make sure that we didn’t do the origin tale, which so many of the other series have done. I think the idea of being able to put a lens on these characters is a really exciting idea,” said Reeves.

He continued,

“It’s about cities and their dysfunction and the world and its dysfunction, which is what Batman stories are all about. They’re all about Gotham being a place that should be better. And you can have that experience of this almost novelistic epic crime saga, but you also just get these separate experiences. They have their own dramatic value. So, Oz’s story is Oz’s story, and the idea is to do these other stories in the same way.”

Prior to the release of The Penguin, Reeves was also developing a show that would have focused on the GCPD and another show that was set to take place in Arkham Asylum. However, they were canceled and weren't fully developed. As of now, no other show set in Matt Reeves' Gotham has been announced by DC Studios as of now.

But the confirmation that more shows are to come will surely have fans excited for the future.

Will there be a season 2 of The Penguin?

Currently, season 2 of The Penguin hasn't been confirmed by HBO or DC Studios. As of now, the show is set to conclude next week when the season finale of the Colin Farrell-starrer airs on HBO and Max. However, that's not to say that this will be the conclusion to Oswald Cobb's story in Reeves' developing DC universe. Rather, the character is also slated to appear in The Batman - Part II.

Director Matt Reeves confirmed this first at San Diego Comic-Con this year at the panel for The Penguin. Reeves also spoke with Forbes about where fans may find the iconic villain in the upcoming sequel.

“At the end of The Batman, you see him looking out over the city - and so, I said that’s where it should start and we then should see that kind of ascent and then we need it get him to this place, where he in these events is ready to join the [Part II] film,” said Reeves.

As of now, The Batman - Part II is slated to release in theaters on October 2, 2026.
