Fans are thrilled since Netflix announced that Stranger Things season 5 will be released in 2025. The episode titles were recently released, causing many speculations about the plot since the cliffhanger at the end of season 4 left many things unanswered.
Stranger Things season 5 reunites its star-studded cast of Winona Ryder (Joyce), David Harbour (Hopper), and Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), with core group Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), and Noah Schnapp (Will).
Sadie Sink (Max), Natalia Dyer (Nancy), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan), Joe Keery (Steve), and Maya Hawke (Robin) also reprise their roles. New faces include Linda Hamilton in an undisclosed role and Amybeth McNulty as Vickie. Here's a look at each episode title, and what it might mean for Season 5's long-awaited finale.
Disclaimer: The article is based on the writer's opinion, is speculative, and has spoilers.
The season premiere of Stranger Things season 5, "The Crawl," sounds like a strained getaway or crawl through a killing field situation. Another theory is that Max may be stuck in a mental prison-like landscape, battling Vecna in a dark, subconscious layer where she has to “claw her way back” to consciousness.
When referring to Dungeons and Dragons, a "crawl" can indicate that the Hawking kids must figure out how to go through a seemingly impossible maze and get out by crawling.
The second episode "The Vanishing of…," can be about the disappearance of a character, probably a repeat of Will Byers's disappearance in season 1. It can also be that Mike's younger sister, Holly Wheeler, might also vanish, and this would centralize her in the supernatural chaos.
"The Turnbow Trap" in Stranger Things season 5 seems to refer to the Turnbow land development company teased in previous hints about the Upside Down. The trap may be a scenario or fight that occurs on Turnbow-owned land, perhaps an abandoned or unfinished construction site.
This may also be the connection between Linda Hamilton's mysterious character, whose role remains secret, and Turnbow, or the Upside Down which is key to Vecna's plan.
"Sorcerer" could introduce a new powerful character or raise heightened powers within the current characters. It may bring back Kali, the Eight, whose powers may be the difference-makers the gang needs to battle Vecna. The "Sorcerer" might relate to Eleven or Will discovering new powers or know-how as they gear up for a final battle against Vecna.
This episode's name "Shock Jock" hints at a radio station called WSQK 94.5. A shock jock is a provocative radio personality, which suggests that someone could play a role in stirring unrest via the radio.
Shock Jock radio can also give Eleven and her peers a way to contact Hawkins or perhaps even send messages to parallel dimensions, which plays off Eleven's abilities to use frequencies.
"Escape from Camazotz" could refer to Mayan mythology, where Camazotz is a bat-like deity, the god of the underworld. It may indicate an actual possibility of the resurrection of Eddie Munson after he was killed in a Demobat attack.
Another reading could refer to A Wrinkle in Time’s Camazotz—a dystopian world where people lose their free will. Perhaps it is the Upside Down parallel world, where those captured become puppets of Vecna.
The title of episode 7 of Stranger Things season 5 "The Bridge", seems to point to a literal or metaphysical bridge between Hawkins and the Upside Down.
This is also the title of the episode where Eleven and Vecna clash in a battle to decide who would control the bridge which may also symbolize how the characters can unite as one, marking perhaps the end of their fighting strategies.
The title of the final episode of Stranger Things season 5, "The Rightside Up," suggests a return to the norm. This could mean two things: Hawkins may be freed from the Upside Down and the gang finally returns their town to its natural state.
Alternatively, this episode may mean a huge sacrifice, like Eleven or Will, shuts down the Upside Down to save everyone and lets Hawkins finally heal from the supernatural destruction.
Set for a 2025 release, Stranger Things season 5 promises an epic conclusion to the beloved series.
