Episode 6 of Creature Commandos premiered on January 2, 2025, on Max. Titled Priyately Skelet, the penultimate episode delved deep into the life of Dr. Phosphorus. It journaled his life from being a scientist trying to find a cure for cancer through nuclear fission to becoming the villainous Dr. Phosphorus who started running his criminal empire in Gotham.
However, that's not all that happened in Creature Commandos. With the episode taking place in Gotham, Batman showed up in the episode as well. While his role wasn't big, he was shrouded in darkness as a silhouette. It was implied that he was the one who put a stop to Dr. Phosphorus' criminal empire in Creature Commandos and sent him to Belle Reeve as well.
While many fans thought it was Robert Pattinson's Batman in episode 6 of Creature Commandos, writer and DC Studios' co-president James Gunn confirmed that wasn't the case. In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, he stated,
"This is the DCU Batman," said James Gunn.
This further confirms that Robert Pattinson's Batman will remain in his universe as the DCU will have a Batman of his own. Currently, a movie starring the DCU Batman is in development as well. The Brave and the Bold will focus on Batman and Damian Wayne's Robin. Directed by Andy Muschietti, the film was set to release in 2026 but was recently delayed to October 2027.
Following the premiere of Creature Commandos episode 6, James Gunn sat down with Rotten Tomatoes to explain the appearance of Batman in the show. Gunn mentioned that this was a Batman that had already been active for a long time. He also noted that before Batman was presented as a silhouette in the series, the original design showed a much more visible caped crusader.
However, Gunn was against that decision as he wasn't ready to commit to that design yet. Hence, the animators behind the show went with the character's silhouette.
“When they first gave it to me, we saw a lot more Batman, and I [was] saying, ‘I am not ready to commit to that. So I [was] just like ‘more silhouette, more silhouette, more silhouette',” he added.
Following that, Gunn also teased a team-up between Batman and David Corenswet's Superman further down the line in the DCU.
“I've gone on the record in the past when I was at Marvel saying my favorite character is Batman. I love him and we're going to do great things with him. He's the most popular superhero in the world and I can't wait for people to see more of him, along with Superman, and together,” said Gunn.
The Creature Commandos season finale is set to air on January 9, 2025, on Max and it will bring an end to the first season. Going into it, fans can expect to see the titular team try and kill Princess Ilana Rostovic while Eric Frankenstein makes sure that they don't go ahead with the plan.
Fans can also expect to see the episode put a special highlight on Nina Mazursky as she is the only Commando whose backstory is left to be explored.
