The American comedy television series Hacks premiered on HBO Max on May 13, 2021, and quickly captured the viewers' attention. Both critics and audiences have showered the show with significant praise, which has paved the way for the production of two additional seasons.
As of writing this article, the craze around the show does not seem to have died down, as the show has become an award-season favorite. Excitingly, it has also been renewed for a fourth season, promising even more entertaining moments from Deborah Vance and Ava Daniels.
In season 4, fans are anticipating the return of several fan-favorite characters, each adding their own unique touch to the story.
Besides Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder who play the title roles, people are curious about the whereabouts of Megan Stalter's Kayla Schaefer and Paul W. Downs' Jimmy LuSaque Jr., both of who had prominent parts to play in season 3.
On a related note, for those who may not know, Paul W. Downs, who plays Deborah Vance's manager in the show, is also the creator and producer of the series.
In Hacks, Paul W. Downs takes on the role of Jimmy LuSaque Jr. He serves as the manager for both Ava Daniels, an up-and-coming comedy writer, and Deborah Vance, a well-established comedian looking to reinvent her public persona.
When Ava suddenly loses her job, Jimmy steps in to connect her with Deborah, who is eager to find new writers to assist in her rebranding.
Although Ava is initially reluctant, she eventually accepts the chance to work as Deborah's writer and moves to Las Vegas to collaborate with her.
Throughout this process, Ava faces numerous challenges, particularly due to the significant differences in her and Deborah’s viewpoints, as well as Deborah's often bold and unfiltered style.
In these trying moments, Jimmy becomes a primary source of support for Ava. He goes out of his way to help her navigate the complexities of her role and even introduces her to potential job opportunities when she thinks about stepping back from her work with Deborah.
Over the course of three seasons of Hacks, Jimmy proves himself to be a capable manager, businessman, and friend. Despite being immersed in the highly competitive entertainment industry, he wears his heart on his sleeve.
All of these combined qualities along with several others that he exhibits make him one of the standout characters in the show.
