Gunther's new level of self-doubt exposed; WWE personality breaks down what went wrong with the champion

World Heavyweight Champion Gunther has not quite been at his dominant best over the last few weeks. WWE analyst and radio personality Sam Roberts recently discussed the situation.

The RAW star suffered a demoralizing loss against Cody Rhodes in Saudi Arabia for the Crown Jewel Championship. Since then, The Ring General has had self-doubt creep in. He has been disturbed by the prospect of challenger Damian Priest possibly taking away his title at Survivor Series: WarGames.

This week on Notsam Wrestling, Roberts mentioned that the champion's decreased confidence coincided with Priest's rise in WWE. He pointed out that the former Judgment Day member was playing to his strengths, which was evident from his promos.

"Gunther has this new level of questioning himself and Damian Priest has this new level of absolute confidence. Damian Priest has figured out where all of his strengths are and is conveying that in the promos that we've seen between Damian Priest and Gunther. I think the promo that Priest did with Gunther a couple of weeks ago was one of the best we've ever seen."

The analyst further mentioned that Gunther was now showing his weaknesses, something the fans had never witnessed before.

"Now, he's actually showing some vulnerability. That's something we never really saw in Gunther. Not that he was this superhuman beast. Even if we thought he could be vulnerable to something, he never showed off any vulnerability." [34:00 - 34:57]

Damian Priest laid out Gunther on WWE RAW

This week on Monday Night RAW, Damian Priest interrupted the champion's interview with Jackie Redmond.

The Ring General was visibly shaken by the verbal onslaught from Priest. He then tried to blindside his challenger by attacking him with the microphone. As the two stars brawled outside the ring, Priest delivered a vicious Razor's Edge to Gunther on the announce table.

It will be interesting to see whether the Imperium Leader can overcome his self-doubt and defeat Priest at WWE Survivor Series.
