Matt Hardy discussed the best wrestling moments of 2024 on the latest episode of his podcast. Reflecting on the top talkers of the year, the WWE legend showered praise on Drew McIntyre's promo skills over the last 12 months.
McIntyre has faced several big names this year, including CM Punk, Damian Priest, Sami Zayn, and Seth Rollins. During his feud with Punk, The Scottish Warrior blurred the lines between fiction and reality by cutting scathing promos on his rival.
Hardy said on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy that the RAW star deserves to be recognized as the best on the microphone in 2024:
"My favorite this year, especially because he really embraced his heel role, and he went so through and through and through with the shtick, is Drew McIntyre." [37:18 – 37:30]
McIntyre defeated Sami Zayn on the December 23 episode of RAW. Earlier in the show, he spoke passionately about the lack of support he received during his recent WWE absence.
On December 13, Drew McIntyre appeared on Busted Open alongside host Dave LaGreca and wrestling legends Bully Ray, Mark Henry, and Tommy Dreamer. The former WWE Champion stormed out of the interview after emotionally reflecting on how much time he spends away from his family.
Having spoken to Dreamer and LaGreca since the incident, Matt Hardy clarified that McIntyre's walkout was not planned:
"I had just learned from talking to Tommy Dreamer and Dave LaGreca, whenever he did that bit with Busted Open, he was out there and it was really a from-the-heart type spiel, as he was saying, which he kinda sounded like a d***head for saying, but obviously some of it rang true, and he dropped the mic and he left, and none of those guys were in-the-know. I mean, that was all done on his own." [39:23 – 39:44]
In the same podcast episode, Hardy revealed which wrestling match he thinks was the best of 2024.
