Singer Steve Lacy has responded to Drake calling him a "fragile opp" on xQc's stream on Monday, November 24, 2024. On November 25, Steve Lacy took to Instagram to respond to Drake aka Drizzy's comments through a series of posts and stories.
The singer first shared an image of himself imitating Canadian streamer xQc's finger heart gesture since Drizzy made the comments on his stream. In the caption, he wrote:
"WAITTTTTT LMAOOOO WHAT IN THE"
In a follow-up Instagram post, he shared an image of a popular emoji, with the caption referring to the Toronto rapper's comments on him. Lacy added:
"who tryna be my…fragile opp"
Further, Steve Lacy also shared Drake's quote on his Instagram story, with the caption "YOOOOOOO" and the latter's track I Feel Lonely in the background.
For those uninformed, Lacy's comments came after Drake called him a "fragile opp" in Canadian live-streamer xQc's stream, where the latter played a song by Lacy. In response, Drizzy said:
“This guy’s like a fragile opp, but this is a good song though.”
Steve Lacy is best known for his work in the alternative R&B genre. He rose to prominence while being a part of the R&B band The Internet and has released two solo studio albums since then. He won a Grammy in 2023 for his second studio album, Gemini Nights in the Best Progressive R&B Album category.
On June 19, 2024, popular rapper Kendrick Lamar organized a one-off concert, named The Pop Out: Ken & Friends in Inglewood, California. The concert was a celebration of West Coast hip-hop artists and marked Lamar's first performance since his publicized feud with Drake ended in May 2024.
Steve Lacy was among multiple artists who performed at Lamar's Pop Out show. Lacy was one of the surprise guests in the concert and performed his tracks Bad Habit and Static. Further, he also took to Instagram after his performance to tell his fans that he hails from California much like Lamar.
“Y’all know I’m from compton right?? So proud of us. Thank u kdot," he wrote.
Bad Habit was Lacy's first track to have ranked number one on the Billboard Hot 100 list and is a part of his second studio album, Gemini Nights. However, Lacy's collaboration with Kendrick Lamar goes back to 2017, when he produced the popular track Pride on K dot's Grammy-winning 2017 album Damn. In an interview with Apple TV, Steve Lacy spoke about his collaboration with Lamar and said:
“I went there a couple more times to work on some stuff and this song he [Kendrick Lamar] was just sure about. He loved this one. Then I hit him up again and he said he’s just finishing up the album so I go ‘Tracklist?’ with the eyeball emojis and he said ‘Lol.’ It was called ‘Wasn’t There’ at the time but it’s called ‘PRIDE’ now.”
Apart from performances from Lacy and many other artists, including Dr. Dre, Schoolboy Q, Tyler, the Creator, and J Rock, Lamar performed multiple diss tracks aimed at Drake in the concert. He notably performed the rap song Not Like Us six times in the show. He also performed Like That, 6:16 in LA, and Euphoria. The feud between Drake and K Dot appears to be over since Drizzy dropped his final diss track, The Heart Part 6 in May.
