WWE Superstars are aware of the risks of the job when they decide to pursue a career in the wrestling business. However, there are a handful of stars who are battling conditions that many fans may know nothing about.
While injuries eventually heal, there are some conditions that have been factors in the lives of some stars for several years. The following list looks at four current WWE Superstars who are battling long-term medical conditions:
Raquel Rodriguez recently returned to WWE after having to take some time away from the company following her Mass Cell Activation Syndrome diagnosis. The former champion struggled to be part of WWE's trip to Australia for Elimination Chamber earlier this year. She has since openly discussed her ongoing struggle with MCAS on social media.
Rodriguez has shared videos and images of when she has been forced to deal with flare-ups and hoped to raise awareness for any of her fans who are struggling with the same condition.
Ivar is currently one-half of WWE's World Tag Team Champions on RAW but was recently sidelined for several months with a neck injury. As part of a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, the 40-year-old revealed that he was currently living with permanent nerve damage following an injury in 2020.
“So I’m pretty good now. To be fair, I do have permanent nerve damage and nerve pain in my hands, and that will never go away. That’s something I live with. But as far as everything else, I got most of my mobility back to my neck. It’s a little stiff now because I have another herniation, but I still have very good range of motion," Ivar said.
Despite the pain, Ivar continues to perform on the highest level and recently won the World Tag Team Championship with Eric as the War Raiders overcame The Judgment Day's Finn Balor and JD McDonagh.
Braun Strowman recently returned to WWE after suffering a torn groin in his Last Monster-Standing Match against Bronson Reed earlier this year. Strowman has been able to pick up where he left off after moving to SmackDown but recently revealed that he has some lasting damage to his leg.
As part of a recent Instagram update, Strowman noted that his quads were in good shape despite one of his legs being 15% paralyzed.
Back in 2018, Roman Reigns shocked the world when he walked down to the ring and announced that he was suffering from Leukemia, something he had been diagnosed with a decade earlier. He noted that it was in remission, but needed to take some time away to once again put his health first.
Reigns was able to battle the condition and make his return the following year but recently noted that he is forced to take oral chemotherapy medication every day and will have to for the rest of his life.
