Cody Rhodes has held the Undisputed WWE Championship for over 230 days. However, a wrestling veteran suggested the company might take the title off The American Nightmare.
In April 2024, Rhodes captured his first world championship in WWE after defeating Roman Reigns on Night Two of WrestleMania 40. He has since defended the title against multiple superstars, including Solo Sikoa, Kevin Owens, and AJ Styles. The American Nightmare is again set to put his championship on the line against The Prizefighter at Saturday Night's Main Event on December 14.
Speaking on the latest edition of the Straight Talk with The Boss podcast, wrestling veteran Magnum T.A. stated that he was not sure Rhodes would remain champion until The Show of Shows in Las Vegas. Magnum added that the company might take the title off the 39-year-old and put him back in the chase, claiming The American Nightmare no longer needed the championship.
"I think they could [take the title off Rhodes]. They could take it off him and put him right back in the chase. You know, they've established him well enough. I mean, he's made. He's made his place in history today. Whether he holds the title for 30 more days or 130 more days doesn't make any difference. But for the sake of the story, the storyline, the chase is still the proverbial bread and butter of the business," he said. [33:00-33:30]
Kevin Owens failed to beat Cody Rhodes and capture the Undisputed WWE Championship at Bash in Berlin earlier this year. As KO would have another chance to dethrone The American Nightmare next month, former RAW Talk host Matt Camp claimed Owens could accomplish his mission at Saturday Night's Main Event.
On a recent edition of The Wrestling Matt podcast, Camp stated that the former Universal Champion ending Rhodes' title reign would "do wonders'' for KO.
"He [Kevin Owens] is a credible main-eventer, and I think it would do wonders for him to beat Cody. Throw that in there. Throw in the idea of Kevin being champion, taking it away from Cody, but also Kevin would be higher up in the world than Roman just based on who's got the title," he said.
Kevin Owens last held a world title in 2017. It will be interesting to see if he captures the Undisputed WWE Championship next month.
